Pasta Fagioli

In a large pan, fill 3/4 with water. Add ham hocks, bacon, and tomato paste to water.

In a small pan, fill 1/2 way with water and add half bag of beans. When water comes to a boil, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Watch pan so that it does not overflow. Let this boil for 15-20 seconds or so, then drain and add beans to large pan.

Add palm full of salt, cover top of water with oregano and garlic powder. Add a few shakes of pepper. When this comes to a boil, lower to a simmer and let it cook for around 3 hours. When done, remove ham hocks, bring pot to a full boil and add pasta. Cook as directed on pasta carton.
